Module 2: The Scholar and the Facilitator

• Compare and contrast a wide variety of characteristics of the scholar and the facilitator.  
• Describe several behaviors of an "active" listener.
• List and describe several strategies used by the facilitator to de-escalate problem situations.  
• List and describe several nonverbal cues used by the facilitator and several avoided by the facilitator when communicating with students.  
• Explain the nature of several proactive strategies used by the facilitator to help manage the classroom.  

Module 3: Planning for Teaching: The Facilitator's Guide

• Distinguish between deductive, inductive, and abductive methods of reasoning.   
• Compare and contrast a learning plan and a lesson plan.  
• Identify and explain five parts of a simple lesson plan.  
• Define and give an example of an operational objective.  
• Identify and explain the six levels of human cognition.  
• Write an operational objective for each of the six levels of human cognition.  

Module 4: Facilitate, Accommodate, or Fail

• Describe several ways in which the facilitator uses group dynamics to enhance learning.  
• Explain several ways in which the facilitator accommodates the preferences of adult students.  
• Explain several ways in which the facilitator accommodates the cultural differences within a class of adult students.  
• Identify and explain several issues which can cause an instructor to fail as a facilitator.  

Module 5: The Facilitator as Manager, Tactician, and Innovator

• Explain the roles and responsibilities of the facilitator as a manager of resources and processes.  
• Describe several ways in which the facilitator functions as a tactician.  
• List and explain some of the newer instructional methods that justify the facilitator’s role as an innovator.  

Module 6: Challenges of the Online Instructor: A Scholar and Facilitator

• List several reasons for high dropout rates of online students.  
• Describe several ways in which an instructor can help students to succeed in an online course.  
• Compare and contrast web-enhanced, web-based, and hybrid courses.  
• Describe several suggestions for effectively assessing the progress of online students.  
• Explain several strategies that can be employed to ensure that an online course is well-managed.  
• List several ways in which an instructor can obtain useful feedback from students regarding an online course.
